Woman is ... an Avon lady.That's what they
say in Egremont, and they should know.Every
year, supposedly since 1267, this hard luck
town outside the Lake District has hosted the
World Gurning Championships, where men,
women and children compete
to pull the ugliest face!

Robert Earle Hughes The Half-Ton Man
Robert was born in 1926 weighing 11 1/4 lbs.
At age 3 months, suffering from whooping cough,
he burst a gland in the back of his neck. From that
day on, to the end of his life, he grew rapidly gaining
pounds and inches daily. At age 20, Robert wore overalls
with a 9'-1" waistband and had to have his mother add
15" strips of material to regular size-20 shirts in order to
cover his chest! Robert died in 1958 at age 32. At
the time of his death he weighed 1,069 pounds.
